Tibetan carpets made for ecclesiastical use include the seat carpets (khagang-ma)- generally squarish in shape and with a base color of red or yellow to indicate monastic affiliation. The higher the rank, the more elaborate were these seat carpets.
This vintage woolen seat carpet made with vegetable dyes is 27”x 29” and framed by a felt border and protected with a cloth backing. Adorned with simple flowers placed in a simple geometric pattern, the carpet has two patterned borders which gives prominence to the floral pattern.
