An antique 17th Century (possibly) Indian low chair, the back decorated with floral carvings and fine turnings. The seat has its original animal skin woven covering and the patina has a superb thick cruddy depth to it. Commonly known as the “Pida” chair, the precise geographic origin of these chairs in India is not known. In Rajasthan, it is called the “Rajwadi” chair, and these chairs are also found in the distant Swat valley in Pakistan. These low chairs are very functional and is designed for the Indian sub-continent culture which involves sitting cross-legged for long periods of time. The low chair takes away the pressure from the knees.
