This Tibetan teapot is identical to a teapot- the Wessex teapot, given to Sir Merton Russell-Cotes (1835-1921) by the explorer Lieutenant Colonel Sir Francis Younghusband (1863-1942). In 1903-4 Younghusband led a controversial military expedition into Tibet. The Wessex teapot was featured and prominently displayed at the Dorset museum.
This antique Tibetan bronze and copper teapot with metal repousse work, castings and hammering details is from the late 18th C/ early 19th C. It is in very good condition except for the finial which has come off and needs to be repaired. This is a rare piece as very few teapots belonging to that period exist today. (Dimensions 15.5inches , 15 inches from spout to handle end) .
