An antique Tibetan mechak - flint purse with a leather cover with turquoise and coral stones. The mechak is framed in a 9-3/4” x 9-3/4” black frame . Mechaks are traditional Tibetan flint stone purses and carried by both Tibetan men and women. The purses are attached to the belts as belt pendants and dangle from the belts. Made with leather and adorned with silver and gilded metals, these are highly decorated with carvings and often studded with coral and turquoise beads. Now used purely for decorative functions, the mechaks (fire- metal) have become a part of the traditional outfit of Tibetan men and women and an integral part of the Tibetan belt and all its adornments. This particular mechak has a small leather cover with holes at the locations of the coral and turquoise stones. The picture frame can be used mounted on a wall or placed on a flat surface.
